THE
ARTISTS/GUESTS
Philomena Lynott Once again Philomena will grace the Vibe stage with her presence and humour in honour of Philip. To most of us he's the King of Irish rock n' roll, but to Philomena he's 'My Boy'.
A 'guest of Honour' indeed!!!!.....
THE HOODOO RHYTHM DEVILS - MD: BRIAN GRACE
[PLAYING ALL SHOWS]
Former Gnasher guitar supremo Brian Grace kicks off an ambitious Vibe premier with The Hoodoo Rhythm Devils which, very loosely, is the house band for the night.
Featuring some very special guest musicians, we can look forward to appearances from international players with Gnasher and The Southbound Band members. Look out for some class performances of Lizzy and Philo classics (and not only the best known ones!)
Some of the musos lined up to perform with or are part of the Voodoo Rhythm Devils are....
Brian Grace
Voodoo MC and guitarist supremo Brian Grace is no stranger to Vibe regulars and sports a long and colourful career, having worked with many top names in the business, most regularly Juliette Turner. Other mentions on his CV include Gnasher and The Southbound Band as well as unofficial The Elite membership.
Paul Toal
LA-based Paul has fronted both Gnasher and The Southbound with his powerhouse vox and bass slant on Lizzy & Philo and has been a serious crowd pleaser at previous Vibes.
Jimmy Coup
Our fave American and former AWD axeman!!! All of us at the last Vibe will remember a blistering performance from Jimmy as part of Gnasher and look forward to some more trans-Atlantic talent from the master himself...
Cait O'Riordan
Former Pogues' Cait played a very tasteful set at the Vibe in 2006 and this year will swing her inimitable bass and vocals into the Voodoo realm in what we're expecting will be another crowd-pleasing performance.
Satoshi Shibata
Satoshi is lead guitarist with Japanese band 'The Lizzy Boys' who have rocked the Vibe and brewed up a storm on more than one occasion! The band can't make it for this Vibe, but that won't stop Satoshi travelling half way around the world to pay tribute by guesting with the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils! One to look forward to - no doubt...
Q (aka Colm Querney)
Guitarist, vocalist, producer (and former Lir member) Q is set for a tasty appearance with the Voodoos after a busy year for him!
Dave McGuinness
Former Lir frontman and currently with Rain Chair, Dave has graced the Vibe stage on a couple of occassions, notably the 10th at the Point. A hugely respected musician, we're honoured to see his return - it's been too long!
Barry James
I only put Barry last because he's always complaining to me that we always put him last.... ;) Manchester's finest multi-talented virtuoso is a bundle of talent with a string of Lizzy related credits to his name. His Celtic-rock/electric trad take on the proceedings has regularly been a welcome variation on the Vibe. This time we'll get to hear him rock out for a change!
The Mighty Stef
'Channelling the ghost of Johhny Cash Through the Devil-Boned-Blues Of Jack White, The Mighty Stef is Dublin's finest unsung hero' NME
'At Times The Mighty One even flirts with genius. His bluesey Tom Waits endebted rock n roll is pretty much as elemental as it gets, Stefs resping voice rings out like a deep south death-row prisoner that isn't going down without a fight'. NME
Franklin Wiesenstein
The ever-youthful Franklin is none other that THE session muso of the '70's, having strummed along with Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Beatles and Freddie's Funky Flashlight. Following a decade in the wilderness performing menial tasks (he had his head painted red and worked as a stop sign for 4 years), he's finally back on track under the guise of 'Shergar's Puppy' with his unique take on classics such as 'Slap ma funky moma' and the country hit 'My wife left me for my best friend, and I sure miss him', we're sure he'll make a worthwhile addition to the Voodoo line-up for Vibe 2008, or something.....
Paul Toal
Paul will repeat last years sterling Gnasher performance with the boys and will be assuming bass duties as well as singing up a storm....
Brian Grace
Another turn-out for the main man & MC of the house band - is there no end to this mans talent?
Jimmy Coup
Jimmy's back and rearing to go! The travelling troubador has the licks, the picks & completes the mix (whilst providing the kicks!) of this lineup...
Lenny
There's no holding Lenny back! The Stormin' Norman of the skins is back to pound the beats that made him a solid favourite at the last Vibe...
Paul Toal
Paul first played the Vibe in 2006 with The Southbound Band, and he's chomping at the bit to rock it out once again. Lock up your daughters!
Brian Grace
Along with turning in sets with the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils & Gnasher, Brian will be turning back the clock to blast it out with his old jamming bandmates The Southbound Band.
Robbie Bray
The Elite, The Southbound Band, Texas Shade... blues legend Robbie has rocked us before (not least when twinned with Brian) and promises to do it again in 2008.
Mick Burke
Mick supplies The Southbound Band with with floor stompin' window shakin' bass riffs from hell, and was once told by Philo that he "Had to go home 'cos me ma has me dinner ready!"
Eddie G.
A long overdue return to the Vibe stage for the percussion miester himself. He'll be fondly remembered from The Southbound Band and Elite performances of yesteryear, and is in fine mettle of late. Expect some magic on the sticks when this guy takes to the stage...
TIZZ LIZZY [PLAYING ALL 3 SHOWS]
TIZZ LIZZY are rapidly gaining a name for themselves with their outstanding tribute to Thin Lizzy and the music of Philip Lynott.
The Belfast based band have been hailed as the most accurate Thin Lizzy tribute to emerge in recent years. One of the key elements of a good tribute band is the look and TIZZ LIZZY have the perfect front man in Matt Wilson who is undoubtedly one of the worlds closest PHIL LYNOTT lookalikes. Matt has studied Phil's moves and style very closely and when he slings on that Bass guitar and takes to the stage the resemblance to the Dublin Rock star legend is uncanny.
TIZZ LIZZY pride themselves on their attention to detail. Everything from the TIZZ LIZZY Mirrored Backdrop, The Twin Guitar Sound and not forgetting The Famous Mirror Fender Precision Bass, it's all there at a TIZZ LIZZY show.
GLYDER
[PLAYING ALL-AGES MATINEE ONLY]
Featuring Tony Cullen - Vocals and Bass, Bat Kinane - Guitars and Backing Vocals, Pete Fisher - Guitars and Davy Ryan - Drums, Glyder have been playing together for a number of years, the band where launched onto the scene in 2004 after a one off gig at “The Vibe for Philo” in Dublin. Not long after, Glyder toured Ireland opening for Thin Lizzy and made a great impression with their debut EP which convinced legendary producer Chris Tsangarides ( Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Ozzy) to record the debut album. The album was released through French label Bad Reputation Records and critically acclaimed all over the UK and Europe.
Live performance is where Glyder excel, establishing them as highly a credible live act opening for and touring with artists such as Thin Lizzy, The Answer, Wishbone Ash, WASP, Bob Catley and Thunder. In November Glyder won a text vote competition to open for UK Rock stalwarts Thunder on three dates of their UK tour in November, a huge achievement for a foreign band considering that only UK mobiles were valid! This led to the band getting the Thunder European tour in March 2007 and securing a major international booking agent. This tour introduced them to new audiences, winning more and more fans with every rocking performance. Glyder made their first major festival appearance in Italy in June opening the "Gods of Metal" festival playing along side Motley Crue, Velvet Revolver and Scorpions.
"Smothered in sublime guitar harmonies and delivered with grit and precision...... Rock & Roll songs laden with duelling guitars and wistful street poetry"
- KKKK KERRANG
"Its time for the world to take notice of high-flying bands such as this one"
- CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE
"Based on the quality of this release, there is simply no limit to just how big this band can be. GLYDER are the band who have finally filled the gap between the trendy rock and rollers of the 21st century and the legendary classic rock of the 70s"
- James Allman Baconmusic.co.uk

PRESS RELEASE01-04-08
The Clock's tickin' down. It's almost Showtime. And as Philip used to put it - "Hey, Dublin - Are You ready to Rock!" Old Favourites The Southbound Band, Gnasher, and Tizz Lizzy are set to rip the Button factory up. Guests such as Ditch Cassidy, Ronan Byrne, Cait O'Riordan, Satoshi Shibata, Franklin Wiesenstein, Colm Querney, Dave McGuinness, Barry James, and other special guests will join the new House band "The Hoodoo Rhythm Devils". Glyder will lead the reprise at the All-Ages Matinee - their only appearance at this years event on Saturday 5th January.
The Lizzy Mirror Logo is on exhibition at Film base on Curve Street - opposite the Venue and the North Star Hotel reports that all room are booked out by International Supporters attending the Annual Vibe. Once again it looks like Philo will be, as Bill Graham put it," King of the City", for the weekend.
PRESS RELEASE28-12-07 Lizzy Stage Logo to go on display in Temple Bar.
Today we take the massive light shows at Rock Gigs as a given. Yet not so long ago even basic light effects were primitive, often boxes of light bulbs with coloured gells which one of the Rodies would switch on and off in sequence to the music. Pink Floyd may have changed all that at Pompeii, but most bands had to rely on the ingenuity and resources of their road crew.
Such an example is the famous Thin Lizzy mirror logo from the "Live and Dangerous" era. Drawing inspiration from the Ballrooms of Romance, the Lizzy Crew constructed the logo from small mirrors and lightbulbs, which, when lit creatively, generated the most stunning effects.
As part of this years Vibe, the Logo backdrop has been dusted off and will shine once more when its exhibited with other Lizzy related material at the Film Base premised in Curve Street from Wed 2nd January, in the run-up to the show at the Button Factory. It's a real piece of Irish Rock'n' Roll history and will afford fans the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Logo in "full flight".
Meanwhile the Video Crew have been hard at work seeking out further unseen and forgotten gems and have come up with a real winner. Clann Eadair was a Sunday morning band Philip played with out in Howth and after much searching the team have finely unearthed footage of the boys in action. It will join with the usual exciting mix of rare, special, and familiar footage which has made the Audio Visuals such a popular feature of the Vibe.
PRESS RELEASE26-12-07
Philo used to say "The Next One is always the Best One" Over the years this has become part motto - part guiding hand to those of us involved with the annual Vibe as we attempt to keep things fresh, challenging, and exciting. This year is no different and of particular note is Brian Grace, no stranger to the Vibes with The Elite, The Southbound Band, and Gnasher, who has taken on the role of musical director of the house band The Hoodoo Rhythm Devils.
In some ways this part of the show will reflect the three-ages of Philip's career, with pre-Lizzy guests such as legendary soul singer Ditch Cassidy; contemporaries and colaborators such as ex-Pogue Cait O'Riordan and Grandslammer Dosh Nagle, and post Lizzy artists such as Lir's Dave McGuinness and Colm Querney whose interpretation of "Diddy Levine" was a highlight of early Vibes.
Other performers confirmed include Barry James, Satoshi Shibata from Vibe Japanese favourites The Lizzy Boys, The Mighty Steff, Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Beatles collaborator Franklin Wiesenstein, with lots of surprises from old and new friends.
The All-Ages matinee is causing quite a stir on the Vibe website forum, with many regulars from home and abroad, finally looking forward to the opportunity of introducing theit siblings to taking a ride in the Lizzy-Mobile.
PRESS RELEASE17-12-07
In an obituary written shortly after Philip Lynotts death, Hot Press's Legendary Rock-writer Bill Graham speculated on the direction Philo's music might have taken. In lamenting his untimely demise, Graham, recalled Dalymount in '77 when Phil was "deservedly King of the City." Later he recalled walking down Sean McDermot Street with Phil and "seen him greeted at every door." In ending his piece Graham wrote "if a man can keep the affections of his friends; it is a worthy epitaph."
Twenty two years on, Bill Graham is no longer with us. Like Philo, he is a tragic, premature, loss to Irish Rock Music. What direction Lynott's music may have taken we can only speculate on, but, having "having kept the affections of his friends" - old and new - the annual Vibe celebration has given us tantalising glimpses as the well known and obscure of the Lynott/Lizzy back-catalogue have been re-interpreted through almost every genre and musical style. While much of this has been by contemporaries, collaborators, and former band members, increasingly it has been by those coming under the Lynott influence many years after his death. In fact, recent Vibes have featured Lynott afficianadoes, many of whom were born, not only after the the break-up of Thin Lizzy, but in a number of cases, after Philo had joined Hendrix, Elvis, Janis, Jim, and other legends in the great gig in the sky.
In recognising this, one of a number of new directions which the Vibe will take includes an all ages matinee - providing a starting point for a whole new generation to "take a ride on the Lizzy-mobile." This will be an alchohol free event, alowing parents to show their kids what "all the noise" was about, under eighteen's to catch the live-music bug with their peers, or those who want to just enjoy the gig to concentrate without the distraction of queing up for a pint.
